Jarry almost perfect in win
PITTSBURGH, Pa -- Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 31 of 32 shots in a 4-1 on Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena over the New York Islanders in an Eastern Conference showdown.
Jarry guided Pittsburgh (8-6-1) to a crucial win over New York (8-5-3) who came into this game with an eight-game point streak. Jarry also stopped six shots short-handed.
Pittsburgh gained momentum early in the game with a goal from center Sidney Crosby. The Penguins kept the momentum with another goal from center Teddy Blueger with less than 1:59 to play in the 2nd period. Two late goals by Pittsburgh put the game out-of-reach for New York.
The Penguins lead by as many as three goals with 4:22 to play thanks to late goals by forwards Jason Zucker and Bryan Rust.
Rust scored a team-tying-high 2 points and added four shots on goal. Teammate Jason Zucker scored a team-tying-high 2 points with four shots on goal. Teammate and center Evgeni Malkin added a game-high two assists.
Goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped a game-high 33 shots on goal for the Islanders including 11 saves while short-handed.
