Kapanen scores overtime winner
WASHINGTON -- Pittsburgh forward Kasperi Kapanen scored a game-high-tying two points to a 3-2 East Division showdown over Washington at Capital One Arena on Tuesday.
Kapanen scored the game-winning goal in Overtime as Pittsburgh (10-6-1), fought hard against Washington (9-5-4).
Pittsburgh was aggressive early in the game thanks to a power-play goal from center, Evgeni Malkin. The Capitals struck big in the second period with two goals until Pittsburgh got one of their own 22 seconds later. Through regulation, the game was tied at 2. In Overtime, the Penguins scored and won their fifth game in their last six.
Penguins forward, Jake Guentzel, scored a game-high-tying two points and added a game-high six shots on goal with an ice time of 20:15. Teammate and center, Evgeni Malkin, scored a goal and added four shots on goal with two takeaways.
Goaltender Vitek Vanecek stopped a game-high 34 shots on goal for the Capitals including four short-handed.
